Flamingo Flare by Sandra Reeves, Lake Jackson,TX

I finished my cute flamingo. I hope you'll like him (or her). I painted it in oils from a photo that I took at Moody Gardens in Galveston,TX.
I did a little research on flamingos and was surprised to learn young flamingos hatch with grey plumage, but adults range from light pink to bright red due to aqueous bacteria and beta carotene obtained from their food supply. A well-fed, healthy flamingo is more vibrantly coloured and thus a more desirable mate; a white or pale flamingo, however, is usually unhealthy or malnourished.Flamingos in captivity are a notable exception; many turn a pale pink as they are not fed carotene at levels comparable to the wild. This is changing as more zoos begin to add in shrimp and other supplements to the diets of their flamingos.

I painted on an 8" X 8" stretched linen canvas, in oils. I painted on all sides so it can be framed or left unframed.

Nehemiah 9:6 - You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.
