"Wild and Free" by Texas artist, Sandra Reeves Cutrer

"Wild and Free", an up close and personal encounter with a wild tiger- in oil paints, that is. I just completed this guy, so he is very wet. Although I spent a lot of hours on him, it was such fun to watch him "come alive"!
God's creatures are so amazing, especially the big cats. Sadly, tigers have suffered greatly at the hand of humans for their beauty and majestic appeal - they have been hunted nearly to extinction in most of their former territories - the largest pool is now in India where recent reports suggest there may be as few as fifteen hundred of the Bengal tigers remaining. We have to rememeber that God loves all creatures, each has their specific purpose on the earth, and we will be accountable about how we have respected- or not respected- God's creation.

But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the handJob 12:7-10 - of the LORD has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.

"Fireworks" by Texas Artist, Sandra R. Cutrer

"Fireworks" was created with oil pastels and oil paints. An idea that started off as an abstract, took on a mind of its own. Painted on a gallery wrapped stretched canvas, 12" x 12" x 1".

The last few days have been so beautiful here in southeast Texas; feeling more like a hint of spring instead of January's end. I am not complaining. Winter is not my favorite season at all. I love spring- new beginnings, flowers blooming, prettier days, burst of energy (for myself and those wonderful song birds). Winter- blah! Everything seems to be gray, dead, ugly, and gloomy. But, we all know how that really works- we have to have winter to be able to have spring. Winter has many purposes. God gives us all "winters" in our lives. We all experience those gloomy times when death or sadness visit our lives, and other times when things just don't seem to be moving forward. That's when we are growing. Maybe under a burden of pain. Maybe where we can't see it or even feel -at all- but we are growing. Soon, the sun will come back, the birds will sing again, and the earth will burst forward with her abundant beauty. Hang on, spring is coming!

“I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.”(KJV) Psalm 34:4

"Strutting My Stuff" by TX artist, Sandra Reeves Cutrer

"Strutting My Stuff" ah, yeah, I am seeing plenty of that lately...just watch a little television. The presidential political debates, critical advertisements, and long speeches that have been going on for the last few months. Everyone wants to be the head rooster. All of them seem to have a fine (and loud) Cockle-Doodle-Do, ready to hop up on the old fence post and wake everyone up, get back down, and do it all over again in a few more hours. I try to listen, as I know this election is so important for our country, but is anyone listening to us? I can get my feathers all ruffled up about it all, but what I really need to do is trust God, since he is the real leader!

"An elder must live a blameless life. He must be faithful to his wife, and his children must be believers who don’t have a reputation for being wild or rebellious. For an elder must live a blameless life. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered; he must not be a heavy drinker, violent, or dishonest with money."
Titus 1:6-7

May God Bless you,our leaders and this great country,

"When the Trumpets Sound" oil painting of Three Elephants by Lake Jackson artist, Sandra Reeves Cutrer

Three young elephants, proud of their trumpeting abilities, painted in oils, on a 10"x20"x.5" stretched canvas (sides are painted a dark hue so it can be left unframed if desired).

Today my heart and mind was on painting, but it was also on the horrible cruise ship accident on the coast of Italy. So much horror and loss over one person's terrible decision to "avoid the correct path". Living a Christian life is a lot like this situation! God has given us a road map to heaven, and we should not take any detours. So much can happen when we take a walk away form God.When we receive God's truth and understanding of salvation, and have given our life to HIM, King Jesus, we have made a covenant with our maker. Sadly, I have known people who were delivered from terrible things in their lives, only to go back into the very life that God had helped them to get out of. So sad.God help us all to stay firm and stand on God's promise that he will never leave us or forsake us- we owe them the same thing!

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. I Corinthians 10:13.

Akecheta by Sandra Reeves Cutrer of Lake Jackson,TX

Akecheta- means "Fighter" (Sioux). I feel like a fighter, too- but not exactly like this brave chief- well, sort of.... I am a fighter; I fight against old age (losing battle!!!), aching bones, sagging muscles... I fight against temptations to do or say things that I know would not please the Lord. I fight to keep my family happy and full. I fight to eat healthy (and stay away from those left-over cinnamon buns I froze after the holidays). I fight to stay away from reading and/or painting all day, when I know I should be cleaning, cooking, or paying the bills, etc. We all fight for (or against) something everyday. Sometimes it seems overwhelming to "juggle" all of the things that we need to "fight" without giving up. Some days I have to remind myself to give it all to God. I mean REALLY GIVE IT to God! Let go, and let God is my motto for this coming year- which I know will give me a sweeter peace in my life!

In 1 Timothy 1:18-19 Paul writes, “Timothy, my son, I give you this instruction in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by following them you may fight the good fight, holding on to faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and so have shipwrecked their faith.”

Slim Pickins by TX Artist, Sandra Reeves Cutrer

"Slim Pickins" is a colorful, and very bossy rooster, painted in oils on a stretched canvas measuring 12"x 24". This guy was fussing at the hens who would dare to come near him, seemingly hoping that he might share whatever it was that he was pecking at. He put up a huge fuss as several tried their luck, making me think just maybe there really wasn't that much there, or either he was just being his bossy old self!
I am pretty sure this old guy has never read:
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." Luke 6:38

Mountain Getaway by Sandra Reeves Cutrer, Lake Jackson,TX

Mountain Getaway, painted in oils. I don't paint too many landscapes, but I know it's good practice. I painted this for my Dad, where I hung it next to his bed. It is a reminder for all of the wonderful vacations that he and our mother took my two brothers and I on summer after summer. Just a few weeks ago, my husband and I took a short trip up to Asheville, N.C. The mountains there are beautiful. I love the mountains more than any other place I've been blessed to travel to.There is something magical about them. I feel a peace that I can't seem to feel any place else, other than being in a great church service with God's spirit moving in a powerful way. In this hurry, crazy, mixed-up world that we live in, I am so thankful for great memories, God's grace, peace in his spirit, and love of family and friends.
Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.Philippians 4:7.

The Orange by Sandra Reeves Cutrer, Lake Jackson,TX

"The Orange" is painted in oils on an 8"x10" pastel board.

Ah, the orange.Without a doubt, quiet different from the rest of the group. It especially reminds me of God's creation of mankind. We are all unique, and we should be comfortable being who God made us to be.Some seem to be more showy than others. Some "brighter", some smaller, some sweeter... He gives us all the freedom to make choices- good and bad ones.He loves who we are (no,not our sin), and we should never feel the need to act like anyone else-just be our unique selves. But, he does give us the chance to make changes for the better, a chance to find our full potential. But,be patient. The McIntosh apples all look pretty much the same on the outside, but when picked too soon, as well the orange, they never become as sweet as if left on the branch until the perfect time for picking!

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb." Psalm 139:13

Happy New Year!

After Glow

16"x 20"

Oil on canvas $300

This is an area off Route 205 near Paluxy, Texas that has goats. I particularly liked the way the tree branches slumped. Painting an abstract landscape is delightful. I love the freedom of choosing colors and shapes. Truly a creative experience.

"Night Glider" Barn Owl by Sandra Reeves Cutrer- Lake Jackson,TX

"Night Glider" is a precious barn owl, painted in oils on a 12" x 12" x1.3" wrap-around canvas (all sides painted, so no need for a frame). Sadly, the barn owl is becoming an endangered species in many states and overseas they are considered a "Species of European Concern".
Every animal put on this earth is for a purpose- many for numerous purposes! There are so many animals we humans never think twice about (especially if they aren't considered cute, pet friendly, or money makers). We should all take great concern for each creature, knowing that each one was formed as a living ,breathing creation from our great creator.

Genesis 2:19 19 So out of the ground the LORD God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the human to see what he would call them; and whatever the human called every living creature, that was its name.

May God bless you and all of His creatures!
